Dear Friend,
🎉 Today, we have BIG news for America’s horses.
After nearly a DECADE of fighting to end the brutal horse slaughter pipeline—and the last 6 months of relentless behind-the-scenes work in Washington DC—we are celebrating a MAJOR breakthrough.
As of today, the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee officially advanced legislation containing language to prohibit the transport of equines destined for slaughter.
This is one of the most significant legislative steps forward we’ve seen in decades.
For far too long, tens of thousands of American horses—former racehorses, beloved companions, work horses, wild horses, and innocent equines of every kind—have been loaded onto trucks and shipped across our borders to horrific slaughterhouses.
Today, that pipeline is under real threat.
But let us be clear: this is not the victory of any one organization.
This moment represents the power of a collective movement—a coalition of animal advocates, organizations, lobbyists, lawmakers, investigators, supporters, and passionate horse lovers across this country who have refused to give up.
To every coalition partner, every advocate working behind the scenes, every supporter who made calls, sent emails, shared posts, donated, educated others, and helped keep this issue alive—thank you. This breakthrough belongs to all of you.
Horses In Our Hands has simply been honored to play a role in this larger fight—helping advocate behind the scenes, meeting with key stakeholders, raising awareness, and shining a light on the transnational crime connected to this pipeline!
🚨 THIS IS THE MOMENT WE NEED YOU!
This language must now remain in the transportation bill as it goes to the House floor and beyond.
That means your voice matters RIGHT NOW.
⚠️ PLEASE CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVE NOW ⚠️
📞 Capitol Switchboard (202) 224-3121
It takes less than 2 minutes.
Simply say:
“I’m calling to urge my Representative to vote YES on HR 8870, the BUILD America 250 Act, with the horse protection provision intact.”
One phone call could help protect thousands of horses.
This has always been a group effort, and we are deeply grateful to every advocate, organization, legislator, supporter, and grassroots warriors who have helped move this issue forward. We are especially grateful to Transportation & Infrastructure Committee Chairman Sam Graves and Ranking Member Rick Larsen for successfully passing a bipartisan bill out of the committee, Reps. Jeff Van Drew and Dina Titus for this impactful amendment, and very importantly, Rep Vern Buchanan for his unending support of the SAFE Act, which was the basis for this amendment.
But right now, we need every single person reading this to act.
America’s horses are counting on us. Please make your call now—and if you can, forward this email to 5 friends who will call too.
We are closer than we have ever been. Let’s finish this!
With gratitude and determination,
